![]() ![]() So she makes snide remarks about him and saying things like Papyrus better not end up like Sans and Papyrus perhaps is feeling a little ashamed and perhaps a little angry that he’s being compared to his brother now that Sans is being lazy and apathetic about his duties. Now, I like the headcanon that Undyne, being the head of the Royal Guard, knows that Sans is the Judge, and that might make the Underfell Undyne a little nervous about criticizing him…to his face, at least. Sans sleeps in, Papyrus often has to carry him to his station before leaving for his training. Another human fell – Sans HP halved again, leaving him with 5 despite his LV being higher than 4 (and that’s an assumption bc we don’t know how much EXP killing a human would gain a monster without absorbing their soul). Papyrus began scolding Sans, but defended him when others made snide comments. Brawls began, but no fights ended in dusting – yet. Sans was less inclined to make it on time to his stations, which he took on to pay for Papyrus’ training in secret, and to keep them housed, and that began to grate on everyone’s nerves because if they can’t rely on a sentry to keep them safe, they’d do it themselves. Timeline restarted to the beginning of Papyrus’ Royal Guard training. He had to kill a human child in the Judgement Hall and his HP halved from the unexpected (to him) trauma. He didn’t know Sans had become the Judge, but that didn’t matter. At first, Papyrus strove to be a Royal Guardsman to be able to protect Sans like Sans protected him as a child. He and Papyrus ended up in Snowdin and time passed and occasionally restarted (because why else would Sans’ HP be so low before the anomaly even arrived in the Underground?). Memories were altered and with just a few sparse ones of Gaster and everything they worked on (including the jumping and ending timelines), Sans was struggling with knowledge he was burdened to keep. Then the incident with Gaster happened and they were suddenly uprooted from everything they knew. And at first, that’s just how they went along – caring for each other like siblings should. And Papyrus would care a lot about Sans, too. Now, I don’t know if Underfell Gaster was a decent, if strict, father or an abusive one that experimented on his children (or if he was even their father at all, but all the same, possibly decent towards Sans, his coworker, and his little brother, or using them for his own scientific gain), but either way, Sans likely cared about Papyrus a whole lot because that’s what Sanses are liable to do, considering they are copies of the original. It would be safe to assume that Underfell Sans was the same way. ![]() So the popular assumption is that Sans (Undertale Sans) wasn’t lazy at first, but as his HP went down, so did his desire to care and you all know what went on from there. ![]()
